The first TDM 850 was a road-biased offspring of the Super Ténéré, using an 849 cc five-valve parallel twin with balance shafts in a tall, long-travel chassis. It offered upright ergonomics, strong mid-range torque and light off-road ability. Sold well in Europe but poorly in the US.
